Kudu Ridge Game Lodge is situated in the heart of Addo in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, and a short 15 kms (9.3 miles) drive from the Addo Elephant National Park.
Addo lies in the Sundays River Valley which stretches from the Indian Ocean up to the Zuurberg Mountains and is home to the legendary Addo elephants and diverse wildlife including the Cape buffalo, lion and leopard, all conserved in the Addo Elephant National Park.
The Addo Elephant National Park is the third largest national park in South Africa. It is 1,640 km² (186,000 hectares) large and the first BIG 7 national park as it includes conservation areas for the southern right whale and great white shark around the islands in the Indian Ocean.
There are numerous activities available for visitors to Addo but the main attraction is game drives in the Addo Elephant National Park. The park is one of South Africa’s top conservation success stories. It provides a home to over 600 elephant plus a growing and varied collection of wildlife. Visitors can choose to self-drive, select the South African National Parks (SANParks) hop-in service or take guided safari tours.
Addo Elephant Park Self-Drive Game Drives
Visitors to Addo Elephant National Park can choose to self-drive in their own vehicle. This means you can view wildlife at your own pace. This is a popular choice with South African visitors who are comfortable driving close to wild animals, especially elephants. Many international visitors prefer to be driven by an experienced guide.
Day visitors must pay the SANParks conservation fee and can only visit between sunrise and sunset (when the gates are open). Opening hours change according to the season so it’s important to check with our team when you stay at Kudu Ridge Game Lodge.
Addo Elephant Park Hop-On Game Drives
SANParks offers a hop-on game drive service in the Addo Elephant National Park where you pay for a guide to join you in your vehicle during your visit. The trained guides come from the surrounding communities. The guide will hop into your vehicles for the duration of your trip to offer knowledge of the Addo park and wildlife. The cost varies according to the vehicle type (car, bus etc.). Guides must be paid for and picked up at the Addo Main gate.
Addo Elephant Park Guided Game Drives
We make use of our 5 to 7 seater Toyota Fortuner which is the perfect off-road vehicle with all the on-road comforts including air-conditioning. The guided game drive groups are small which means that our guests can all enjoy the professional knowledge and information provided by our trained field guide. Our guides know the park very well and take guests to areas where the best game can are seen.
The cost per tour is R1400 per person including a light picnic lunch in Addo. We depart Kudu Ridge Game Lodge at 9am and return at 3pm.
