The South African government has removed the requirement for foreign under-18 children entering or leaving the country to present an unabridged birth certificate, including both parents’ details. This rule no longer applies to children from countries where no visa is required, including the UK and many others. As of November 2019, the requirement for international minors to present unabridged birth certificates has been scrapped.
This requirement was implemented in June 2015 and has caused havoc and confusion for many families wanting to travel to South Africa. We are delighted that this additional administrative issue has finally been resolved and we look forward to welcoming families to our Kudu Ridge Lodge in Addo.
We encourage you to read the details of the unabridged birth certificate requirements on the South African Home Affairs website.
Addo Travel: Family-Friendly Kudu Ridge Lodge
South Africa, and our Addo region in particular, is a family-friendly destination and offers many attractions, activities, restaurants and accommodation that suit a wide range of budgets.
Kudu Ridge Game Lodge is a privately-owned, family-run game reserve and lodge located close to the malaria-free Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa. We offer fully serviced bed and breakfast accommodation to single travellers, couples, small groups and families with children over the age of six. We can accommodate guests in eight large private en-suite safari tents, each sleeping a maximum of four people, and six chalets, which sleep up to two people per unit.
The lodge can accommodate a maximum 44 guests and for bookings of 20 people or more, the camp is booked out exclusively for the group and no other reservation will be entertained during your stay. We are a perfect destination for a holiday.
Our facilities include a comfortable boma, a spacious dining area and spectacular viewing deck. Guests and families gather around our central fireplace in the boma area. It is warm, inviting and ‘gesellig’, an Afrikaans word meaning ‘sociable’.
Many guests choose to enjoy dinner at the lodge. These must be booked in advance. Our meals incorporate South African recipes and use as many fresh and locally sourced ingredients as possible.
Addo Travel: Addo Elephant Park Safari
Visiting the nearby Big 5 Addo Elephant National Park is the top attraction for all our guests. Some choose to self-drive in the park and others prefer to book a guided Addo tour. During a guided safari our experienced guides share their knowledge of the wildlife, birds, plants, insects, reptiles and landscape.
View the other family-friendly Addo activities and we encourage you to contact us with any questions. Planning an Addo holiday with your family just got easier now that the unabridged birth certificated requirement has been scrapped!
